Euro 7 emissions standard: New requirements call for new processes

90% less brake dust and a manufacturing process that needs to be rethought.
With the upcoming Euro 7 emissions standard, SHW Brake Systems is relying on hard-coated brake discs that significantly reduce emissions while also ensuring a long service life.
However, this innovation has a direct impact on production.
New requirements in the grinding process
The hard coating presents new challenges in machining:
• High requirements for process stability
• Sensitive response to foam formation
• Precisely matched cooling lubricants required
Only when machines, filtration and process medium work together optimally can reproducible results be reliably ensured.
Holistic solution in series production
Together with KNOLL Maschinenbau, we have developed a solution that focuses precisely on this interaction.
The central system used supplies several grinding machines and handles filtration. It is filled with our cooling lubricant AVILUB METACOOL ETA, which ensures a stable concentration throughout the process and specifically reduces foam formation.
What was initially tested in a trial environment is now being used in series production – delivering stable and reproducible results.
A further step:
The automated measurement and dosing of the cooling lubricant. Initial results show a high level of correlation with laboratory analyses and create the basis for further efficiency potential.
Partnership as a success factor
This success story clearly demonstrates: Modern manufacturing processes do not emerge in isolation.
Only through the interaction of component development, mechanical engineering and process media can a solution be created that meets increasingly demanding requirements.
Three companies. One process. One goal: future-ready production.
